Spring Quinoa Risotto

Fresh spring vegetables in a creamy and comforting risotto, ideal for a wet spring day. We use the lighter but more nourishing quinoa instead of the less nutritious risotto rice that can leave you feeling bloated and heavy (Italians please don't be too annoyed, we know risotto means rice!).Quinoa (pronounced "keen-wa") cooks in approximately 12 minutes so it's also quicker than cooking a traditional rice risotto and it is packed with nutrients. Quinoa is one of the most "complete" foods in nature because it contains amino acids, enzymes, vitamins and minerals, fibre, antioxidants, and phytonutrients.

We love the fact that we can use ginger as a kick start in the morning (beats a coffee in our book), as a palate cleanser and a digestif. Ask for ginger tea at the end of dinner - preferable to an espresso when you're trying, not only to digest, but wind down after a long day. Like peppermint and chamomile it's a carminative - a substance that stops gas forming... or helps get it out!

Wang’s Pared Down Fall – After last season’s array of prints and racing motifs, Alexander Wang chose a more pared down approach for his fall 2012 show featuring an all-star cast including Gisele Bundchen, Shalom Harlow, Frankie Rayder and Karolina Kurkova amongst others. This season went back to Wang’s roots albeit a tad more polished with leather coats, netted masks which covered models’ lower faces and knitted sweaters. The collection was minimal with a focus on embellishments such as military inspired accents on trench coats, chiffon tops and sculpted shoulders. Despite its simplicity, the showing turned out to be one of the designer’s strongest efforts yet proving less is indeed more.

ui’s Delightful Fall – Anna Sui continued to reign as one of New York Fashion Week’s most whimsical designers with her fall 2012 collection featuring playful prints, youthful shapes and owl caps. Overlooking the more quirky elements, however, the showing also delivered solid fashion featuring divine color and fabric combinations ranging from fuchsia silks to olive-green velvets. Light layers with a hint of 60′s flavor dominated the runway with large kaftans, tweed skirts and faux fur coats.

Gucci Grace – After a preview in January, here is a look at more campaign images from Gucci’s recent Flora fragrance campaign. Abbey Lee Kershaw stars as the face of the Garden Collection which features five colorful fragrances named Gorgeous Gardenia, Gracious Tuberose, Glamorous Magnolia, Generous Violet and Glorious Mandarin. The Aussie beauty wears lightweight chiffon gowns in various hues like dresses from buffalo jeans in the garden of delights.
